Clearing dark thoughts

I like an analogy a yoga teacher (Michael) spoke about at an event where we both taught yoga a month ago. After our sessions, he sat everyone down and talked. His wisdom is inspiring.

Bliss, is like the sun. It’s there always. Just there.

Now then, our thoughts are like the clouds. They are fleeting, ever-changing. Some float by, covering the sun a little. “I am stressed,” in comes a thought. “I am nervous.” “I am not good enough.” One after another, clouds cover the sun. “He makes me mad.” “I don’t like that girl.” “She’s so bad at what she does.” “I am in such a bad situation because of them.” More than just self-doubt, judgements and expectations of others come drifting in too.

What a cloudy day.

Now the sky is our consciousness and the sun is the bliss in our heart. We’ve always have bliss in our hearts. We’re born with a strong, beating heart—with the ability to love to any amount we wish, and to control our emotions, perceptions and breath.

Our negativity and the persistent way our minds harp on these negative thoughts are the reasons why we can’t seem to find joy within. The clouds block out our bliss. Despite being around always, bliss (the sun) isn’t allowed to shine.

Let those clouds float by and away. Notice their presence, acknowledge their negativity and ask them to leave. Find gratitude in all comfortable and uncomfortable situations. Change begins with changing perception.

Shake off the darkness. Allow light in.
